What is a handled singing bowl?
A handled singing bowl is a traditional Himalayan bowl fitted with a wooden rod beneath its base, letting you hold it in one hand and play it without resting it on a cushion. Because the base never touches a surface while you play, the bowl rings freely and the tone sustains longer and cleaner than a cushioned bowl. The deep, mottled fire-finish bronze gives it the look of a ceremonial piece, while it stays a fully functional therapy instrument. It is part of our wider range of Tibetan singing bowls.
Why choose a singing bowl with a handle?
- Play it anywhere around the body. Hold the bowl over or beside a client and direct sound exactly where you want it during a sound bath or one-to-one session.
- Fuller, longer resonance. With nothing damping the base, the fundamental note and overtones ring out and decay naturally for a richer sustain.
- Comfortable one-handed carry. The contoured wooden handle balances the weight of the bowl so you can walk a room or move between clients without fatigue.
- A complete kit, ready to play. Both the felt mallet and the wooden mallet are included, so nothing else is needed to get started.
- Cleaner striking and rimming. A stable hold makes it easier to produce a steady singing tone on the rim or a clear strike on the wall.
Choose your chakra
This bowl can be tuned to a chakra so its note supports a specific intention in your practice. Each handmade bowl is matched to the note for the chakra you select. As a guide, larger bowls fall toward the deeper Root and Sacral notes, while smaller bowls reach the higher Throat, Third Eye and Crown notes. To understand how each note maps to a chakra, see our chakra and note guide.
| Chakra | Note | Supports |
|---|---|---|
| Root (Muladhara) | C | Grounding, stability, security |
| Sacral (Svadhisthana) | D | Creativity, emotion, flow |
| Solar Plexus (Manipura) | E | Confidence, willpower, energy |
| Heart (Anahata) | F | Love, compassion, balance |
| Throat (Vishuddha) | G | Communication, expression, truth |
| Third Eye (Ajna) | A | Intuition, insight, clarity |
| Crown (Sahasrara) | B | Awareness, connection, spirit |
Select your chakra from the options above. As each bowl is hand-made, the note is matched as closely as possible to the chosen chakra.

How to play a handled singing bowl
Hold the bowl level by the wooden handle with a relaxed grip. To strike, tap the outer wall firmly with the felt mallet and let the note ring out. To make it sing, press the wooden mallet against the outer rim and move it in a steady, even circle, keeping consistent pressure and speed until the tone builds. Because the bowl is held in the air, you can tilt and position it freely to send the sound toward a client or around a room. When not in use, set it down by its handle. For more technique, read our guide on how to play a singing bowl.

Every handled singing bowl is hand-beaten in Nepal in the Himalayan tradition, then fitted with its wooden handle and finished by hand. No two are identical, so the hammer marks, colour and exact pitch make each piece unique. To care for the bowl, keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth and store the mallets alongside it. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a handled singing bowl and a normal one?
A handled singing bowl has a wooden rod fixed beneath its base so you can hold and play it in the air. A normal bowl sits on a cushion, which slightly damps the base. The handle lets the bowl ring more freely and makes it easy to move the sound around a client.
What is included with the bowl?
Each handled singing bowl arrives with the bowl on its fitted wooden handle, a felt mallet for striking, and a wooden mallet for rimming, plus free engraving if you choose it. Nothing else is needed to start playing.
What sizes are available?
Handled singing bowls are available from 7 inches up to 12 inches in diameter. Smaller bowls give brighter, higher notes and are more portable, while larger bowls give deeper notes with longer sustain.
Can I choose a chakra or note?
Yes. You can select the chakra you want the bowl tuned to, from Root through to Crown. As each bowl is hand-made, the note is matched as closely as possible to your chosen chakra.
What finishes can I choose?
The bowl comes in four hand-applied finishes: Shining, a bright polished golden surface; Golden Dim, a soft muted golden tone; Antique (Tiger Eye), a darkened aged bronze; and Full Moon, a heavily beaten mottled fire-finish.
Is engraving free?
Yes. Standard personalization and engraving are included free. You can add a name, short message, initials or a mantra, or upload a logo or photo, using the options above before adding to cart.
Will my bowl look exactly like the photo?
Each bowl is hand-made, so colour, hammer marks and exact pitch vary slightly from piece to piece. Your bowl will share the same form and quality but will be one of a kind.
