1. Moving the Mallet Too Fast

How to Make a Singing Bowl Sing: Step by Step

  2. Set the bowl properly. On a firm ring cushion that supports only the base, or on a flat open palm with fingers spread wide. Nothing should touch the walls.
  3. Hold the mallet like a pen, near the middle, pointing straight down. A near-vertical mallet gives clean contact. Angled mallets skid.
  4. Strike the outer wall once, gently, about two thirds of the way up. This seeds the vibration and makes the rimming build far easier.
