Chakras and the Endocrine Glands - The Singing Bowl Note Map

In the tradition I was taught, each chakra note is linked with an endocrine gland: C with the testes and ovaries, D with the pancreas and adrenals, E with the thymus, G with the thyroid, A with the pineal and B with the pituitary. This is a map of the body, and a singing bowl does not act on any gland.

Key takeaways

  • Seven notes, six glands: no gland is recorded for the Heart note, F.
  • Same order: glands and chakras both run from the pelvis to the head.
  • A map, not a method: there is no evidence that a bowl changes hormones.
  • See a doctor for any gland or hormone concern.

Which chakra matches which gland?

A simple seated figure with seven coloured dots from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Beside each dot is the note and the gland the tradition links to it: C testes and ovaries at the Root, D pancreas and adrenals at the Sacral, E thymus at the Solar Plexus, F not recorded at the Heart, G thyroid and parathyroid at the Throat, A pineal at the Third Eye, and B pituitary and hypothalamus at the Crown. Note Chakra Gland linked in the tradition Where the gland sits
C Root Testes, ovaries Pelvis
D Sacral Pancreas, adrenals Abdomen
E Solar Plexus Thymus Chest, behind the breastbone
F Heart Not recorded in my teacher's list
G Throat Thyroid, parathyroid Neck
A Third Eye Pineal Deep in the brain
B Crown Pituitary, hypothalamus Base of the brain

The notes follow the Vedic mapping. For what each gland does, the MedlinePlus guide to the endocrine system is a clear medical source.

Why do the two line up?

Because both describe the same column of the body. The glands sit in the pelvis, the abdomen, the chest, the neck and the head, and the chakras are placed along the same line.

That is not proof that one explains the other. It shows that both were looking at a body with a real structure, and there are only so many ways to divide it.

Where is the fit loose?

  • The Heart note has no gland in the list I was taught, so the F row is left open.
  • The thymus sits at chest height, yet the list places it with E, the Solar Plexus. Many other charts place it at the Heart.
  • Charts differ between teachers, so you will see other versions.

I would rather show you the gaps than fill them from another source.

What does a singing bowl not do?

A bowl supports relaxation and an attentive state. There is no evidence that an A note bowl changes melatonin, or that a G note bowl affects the thyroid.

See a doctor for any concern about your thyroid, blood sugar, fertility, sleep or stress. Sound practice sits beside proper care, never in place of it. Our guide to sound healing contraindications explains who should take extra care.

How do you use the map with a set of bowls?

Seven singing bowls in a row labelled C, D, E, F, G, A and B. Under each is the gland the tradition links to that note. The F bowl is marked not recorded. CTestes, ovariesDPancreas, adrenalsEThymusFnotrecordedGThyroid, parathyroidAPinealBPituitary, hypothalamus Root to Crown, in the Vedic mapping
The same map on a set of seven bowls. It is a way to remember the chakras, not a way to act on a gland.
  • As a memory aid: the glands help you remember where each chakra sits.
  • As a study tool: you can answer a student's question plainly.
  • As honest language: say "the tradition links", not "this bowl works on".

What are the common mistakes?

  • Calling it a mechanism: saying a bowl "balances" a gland.
  • Replacing care: using sound in place of a doctor.
  • Hiding the gaps: filling the Heart row to make the chart look complete.
  • Mixing charts: taking one gland from each teacher.

Frequently asked questions

Which chakra matches which endocrine gland?

In the tradition I was taught, the Root is linked with the testes and ovaries, the Sacral with the pancreas and adrenals, the Solar Plexus with the thymus, the Throat with the thyroid and parathyroid, the Third Eye with the pineal, and the Crown with the pituitary and hypothalamus.

Which gland is linked with the Heart chakra?

My teacher's list records no gland for the Heart note, F. Many other charts place the thymus at the Heart, because the thymus sits in the chest.

Which chakra is the pineal gland?

The pineal gland is linked with the Third Eye chakra and the note A. It sits deep in the brain, behind the point the tradition calls the third eye.

Which chakra is the thyroid?

The thyroid and parathyroid are linked with the Throat chakra and the note G. They sit in the neck.

Do singing bowls affect your hormones?

There is no evidence that they do, and the tradition does not claim it. The chart is a map of the body, not a way of acting on a gland.

Why do the chakras line up with the endocrine glands?

Both describe the same column of the body from the pelvis to the head, so they fall in almost the same order. That does not prove that one explains the other.

Can a singing bowl help a thyroid or hormone problem?

No. A bowl supports relaxation and does not treat any gland or hormone condition. See a doctor for any concern about your thyroid, blood sugar, fertility or sleep.
